Pop-up Blocker/Security Settings

For IQSweb to function, pop-ups must be enabled for the IQSweb home page URL.  In addition, you may need to check IE security settings if you experience trouble downloading files from IQSweb.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You should run the File Download Test from the About page to see if you will need to change any settings.  In some cases the pop-up blockers or security settings will not allow you to see the screen to save a file to your local drive.  This is specifically important with the Transfer Out process as once the process is started, the person is deleted from your database and can only be recovered manually if the transfer out file is not actually created.

Steps To enable Automatic Downloads:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.

  2. Click on Tools->Internet Options.

  3. Click the Security tab, and then click Custom level.

  4. To turn off the Information bar for file downloads, scroll to the Downloads section of the list, and then, under Automatic prompting for file downloads, click Enable.

  5. Just below that, under File download, click Enable.  Click OK.

  6. Click Yes to confirm that you want to make the change, and then click OK again.

There are many pop-up blockers available on the Internet, two of the most common are the Internet Explorer (IE) built-in pop-up blocker and the one on the Google tool bar.

The instructions below apply to configuring pop-up blockers for IE6, IE7, IE8 and Google Toolbar to allow full functionality while using IQSweb.  Configuring any pop-up blocker is similar in that they all have the concept of an ‘allowed list’.  For help with other popup blockers, please call your information systems support personnel.

Tips

Steps to Configure Pop-ups for Internet Explorer 6, 7, 8

  1. Click on Tools->Pop-Up Blocker Settings.  Note that if the IE pop-up blocker is turned off, this menu choice will be grayed out, therefore, your browser is configured to accept pop-ups from all web sites.

  2. In the ‘Address of Web site to allow’ input box, copy and paste the URL for the IQSweb application and click Add.

  3. Click the Close button.

Steps to Configure Pop-ups for Google Tool Bar

Unlike IE, the Google Tool Bar maintains its ‘allowed list’ internally.  To add the IQSweb application URL to the Google Tool Bar ‘allowed list’, enter the URL for the IQSweb application in the browser.  Once the page has completely loaded, click the pop-up count button on the Google Tool Bar.  The button on the tool bar will change to read ‘Popups okay’.

The Google Tool Bar often is problematic, however, when using the application as it maintains fully qualified URLs in its internal ‘allowed list’ and the allowed list is not currently configurable as it is in IE.  To work around this, the Google Tool Bar pop-up blocker should be configured to play a sound when a pop-up is blocked.  Should you hear the sound when accessing any links while using the IQSweb application, please hold down the CTRL key and click the link again, this will cause the Google Tool Bar to temporarily allow the pop-up.  Should the CTRL key method become annoying, the Google Tool Bar pop-up blocker can be completely disabled.

  1. Click the Settings button on the Google Tool Bar and choose Options.  This will display the Toolbar Options dialog.

  2. Click the More tab, check the boxes under ‘Popup Blocker’ as desired.  If you are going to leave the Google Tool Bar pop-up blocker enabled, please be sure the ‘Play a sound’ check box is checked.

  3. Click the OK button to apply the settings and close the Toolbar Options dialog window.
